Hope the "winner" was some vigilante coin expert who runs up the price on these fakes to protect the innocent, with no intention of paying.

I'm confused about the stars. Here are two more with the same date and different stars.

Arctic, I have no input on your star question. But wow, that XF45 example is amazing I need to start saving...

The two varieties for that year is 9/7 and 10/6 stars left/right respectively.

Ok Thanks Eddie. I'm not familiar with bust dollars.
It sure does look like it's missing a star on the left then.

The number of obverse stars hit its peak in 1797; all 1797 dollars have 16 stars, the 16th representing the admission of Tennessee to the union. After that, they realized it was impractical to keep this up, and Mint Director Elias Boudinot had the subsequent coinage go back to 13 stars (though there was one 1798 dollar die variety with 15). So that's the second thing you CAN see on this pathetic attempt to hide behind a blurry picture, that condemns this coin as a fake!

It's a good thing it didn't have 1798 as the date or they could have pulled it off.
