It does not look like a usual plating error. On the plating error coins in my collection, the two metal colors have a gradual feathered transition. Your coin has a sharp transition between the metals. I think the coin may have been dipped in something after it was minted & in circulation. It might help to look at it under a microscope. Interesting coin.

A short stay in the change=holder of your car where there's a little coke spilled can affect the finish similarly... I wonder if there are many pennies out there which are completely "silver" from a similar dunk?
