This coin is no die match but I think it was cut by the same hand as my first ancient. Or at least two people taught by the same person. Uncanny! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Constantine...em43b8ba78b8 EE9s2ufg)2BRG,1UmlPg~~60_3.jpg) Id really want this coin but I dont ave paypal. I can offer someone some good coins in trade for this guy if anyone wants to go for it for me. PM me if you're interested! I have some later later roman coins in good condition (particularly a valentinian votive and a victory with captive and Theodosius victory with captive) and a greek or too. Depending on the end price perhaps the Gorgon on Shield / Macedonian helmet would be your cup of tea. Perhaps a larger trade? anyway, I want this coin! PM me if you can help!

Nice coin, if I weren't broke at the moment I'd bid for you.

Unfortunately no luck - someone with deep pockets wanted this coin and they wanted it bad. Went up to $51!
Big thanks to whizb4ng anyway!

There are a lot of theories about how these coins were cut, not sure what if any real evidence exists. Some think a single man did it, others that the more able finished junior workers dies and more again who believe the writing could have been cut by one and the bust by another. Was cutting a production line or the work, start to finish of a single craftsman? The styles are certainly geographical but how much could be said to be the work of one man. Its an interesting thing to study looking at the idiosyncrasies of close coins. I'm sure you'll have more chances to buy 'close' coins at better prices and if you continue you'll prob end up knowing more than anyone else in that area for this coin. Keep us informed

I was shocked how high the coin ended up selling for I did not expect it at all.

I emailed Time Lines about that coin cut by (definitely) the same die cutter as my left facing one and Brett says its £35 to me + postage. Does that sound fair for the type? I'm not so sure.
