Poll Question
Have come across many 1751-1951 nickels and noticed the 1 in the date 1971 looks different .
1 is fat and 1 is thin . Has this been noticed before and is it quite common .

The "fat" one looks like it took a hit. The edge right next to the date is flattened also.
