Have come across about 20 of these coins all 1958 bu nickels . Is this what is called mortar set , or is this doubling ? If mortar set what does this do to the value of the coin ? The c a da in Canada and 9 in date .
Looks like mortar set to me, CPC. The jagged edges of the extra metal on the numbers and letters show it was where the plating on the die was beginning to chip away, as opposed to an actual shift in the die which would cause a smoother Machine Doubling.
