COINAF -Coalition Of Internet Numismatists Against Fraud- is pleased to announce commencement of its activities. This organization's primary purpose is defined in depth at http://coinaf.org/, but our mission statement reads (in part): "COINAF is a group of dealers and collectors committed to the promotion of fair and honest trade of numismatic items on the internet and to the education of consumers in the study of numismatics and fair trade practices. COINAF will provide links, information, and assistance to those who visit our site. We will aid local and national law enforcement agencies in identifying unfair trade practices including fraud and counterfeiting." We are an action organization, not merely another reporting and complaint site; this need has already been met by scores of such sites. It is our stated purpose to assist numismatic collectors and dealers with transaction problems rather than do their work for them, but we will provide specific guidance and necessary action toward resolution of a problem. COINAF is currently soliciting membership applications at all levels. We have a need for serious individuals willing to assume responsibility and with the tenacity to see these efforts through to completion. Details of the various echelons of membership are available on our site, but we are looking for collectors and dealers who are concerned enough about the increasingly frequent fraudulent coin activity on the internet to take an active role. COINAF members do not need to be particularly knowledgeable in any specific numismatic field nor do they have to be lawyers or law officers; rather, an interest in curbing internet fraud within our field, a sense of purpose and dedication, and a willingness to volunteer some time to this cause are the primary criteria for membership. We thank you for your interest and invite you to review our website at http://coinaf.org/.

Give 'em a chance, Jerry. It's only been a few hours, most of 'em at night. One factor that we didn't emphasize enough in our announcement is that our primary effort will be numismatic education, the greatest defense against fraud.

Is membership open to everyone? Or do you have to apply and then be approved? There is a reason I'm asking.

Hi Folks, I wonder if this post got lost in the shuffle during C/P's loss and recovery. Folks, you should take a look at this effort being made to help improve our hobby. A lot of hard work went into setting up the organization and additional members are needed to work on committees and other areas to help it realize its mission and goals. Vist the site and tell us what you think or ask any questions you may have about it on this thread!! It's a great way to give back to the hobby and help others in need of assistance. Thanks, Mike http://coinaf.org/

I'm keeping this thread near the top.
Everyone, we can use your assistance in COINAF. In order to be effective, we need more members who care enough about the hobby to invest a little time and help clean up the internet coin auctions. Persons can devote as little or as much time to the organization as they feel they can spare. We have many projects and tasks, both large and small and an individual's responsibility can be tailored to his/her requirements. What we can solidly guarantee is the satisfaction of making a difference.
