Thanks, CPC. The condition of the nickel is very nice -- very little wear on it. By the looks of it I'm going to go with errorone and Scissel, and vote for Struck Through Grease. As well, the empty areas in the date appear to be the same blue-ish colour as the rest of the coin, which would not be the case if the numbers had been abraided away after minting showing the base metals underneath.
