I am trying to understand exactly what a registry set is. I surmise that it is a complete set of a certain coin, i.e. Lincoln cents. Apparently they are all graded by a TPG and then recorded comparing that set against other previous sets accumulated. So, you end up with a box full of slabs and you really cannot put them into a single album? Also, would that registry set require all of the anomalies like the 1955 DD? I have really developed a fascination with Lincoln cents and would like to consider putting together a registry set and any thoughts on the process would be greatly appreciated.
Thx, Jim

Jim,

You are on the right track with a registry set being graded by TPG's. However, there are differences between rules for sets. For example, NGC's registry will let you use a PCGS coin, but PCGS has not returned the favor yet.

I did 2 just for the fun of it with NGC. I have one with GSA dollars, and another with 20th Anniversary Eagles. You accumulate points for each coin (These points are preset by the TPG) and with NGC you can also get more points for photos and descriptions. I have photos for the eagles, but not yet for the GSA's. They also rank you against other sets. It is kinda fun to watch the rank climb as you add coins or photos. Only thing is you have to be a member.
