I have two $1 bills that my mother got from the bank in 1981 that are uncut. I was wondering if there is any significant value and how rare it is. Also how is it possible? I've watched a few things on how money is made and it just doesn't seem like it happens very often

I know nothing about currency but it seems that the serial numbers should be closer, maybe? Not sure. Also, the 3 in the serial number on the top bill looks funny. It doesn't seem like the same size / font as the rest of the numbers.

I might be wrong, but I think the fourth and fifth numbers in the serial numbers on a sheet are the only numbers that change. The first and last three are the same on every bill.
Are the bills cut somewhat? It looks like there is separation between the two.
I'm not an expert, so you'll have to wait until someone more knowledgeable shows up. However, I'm pretty sure uncut bills carry a premium. Though I don't expect these to be worth much over $2.

I belive these are from uncut sheets sold by the BEP. If my memory serves me right, starting with series 1981, $1 notes witb serials above 96000000 were sold as uncut sheets of 16 or 32 notes, to the public for a premium. People would then cut them down. They are not rare at all. They do carry a small premium when uncirculated. You might get $5 for the pair. How ever if you found a set with lower serial numbers, I suspect it would be worth 10s of 1000s of dollars. Though I have never seen a reference to such and error. I'm not an expert but I do read about and collect currency alot.

Yeah I didn't imagine they would be worth to much. But they are not cut at all between the two bills and my mother got them out of an ATM folded up as if it were two separate bills. I thought that was kind of strange. I've seen sheets that are sold but this was just two bills together

The 1981 AD block is not worth much even in uncut serials. In fact the regular notes are listed as more than the uncut for this block in CH CU. Since these are well manhandled, they probably have limited premium value.

I am not sure you are understanding what others are telling you. These notes were sold as part of a larger sheet. Someone cut that sheet apart and left these two together for some reason. There is no mystery to it.

They're certainly interesting to find in the wild like that. If I found something like those, I'd hang on to them.

Not an expert but the s/n's on the top bill are a bit askew or willy nilly if you will

Bills starting with 99 were sold as uncut sheets by the mint.

I may be misguided, but I am pretty sure that there aren't any ATM's that give out one dollar bills, or even fives, for that matter.
