I just thought this might be of interest to some people here. An RFD member has just posted the very last certified roll of pennies from the RCM..... #20,000/20,000.

Here is the link: 130857565469

Crazy how much people are willing to pay for a sticker. I bet it was just a random(last) roll in a pile that got picked up and applied the sticker.

Yes it might be a sticker but those are the last 50 pennies the mint will ever circulate. Even if the pennies were rolled in no specific order they were still last to roll of the line. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that auction hits well north of a thousand.

The true farewell to the penny roll.

The seller was offered almost $600 outside of ebay (by a couple of different people/companies) before he decided to post it on ebay.... I originally thought it might sell in the $100-200, but John517 might be right... it could topple the $1K mark.

Extremely debatable and almost certainly not factual but it will be fun to see how high this roll goes.

That is what probably happened. They just stuck a label on a random roll.

It is not really the last roll of pennies. It just happened to have the number 20,000/20,000.

Would you pay $1000 for a label? Not me.

Are these real? How could you get so many? The wrappers don't have the golden foil like the pic from the mint.

I heard that shipping to/from Canada has gone up, but;

"Winner will pay $29.99 for shipping within USA, and $19.99 for CANADA. For other countries please contact me for shipping."

(edit: corrected my typo in "shiiping/shipping")

Apparently the guy is a scalper. Probably paid people to go into the mint store and buy them for him. Not illegal, a little unethical. This is the kind of guy that everybody refers too as a hoarder and has no intention of buying coins for any other reason than profit. Either way he maybe got 50 to 100 rolls max. Not a huge profit for the work involved. He should be charging more for the rolls that way I can make more money when I sell me roll.

That's always the case. I know a guy who collects bills with sequential serial numbers. He pays off bank employees. He has every teller in town working for him. I would not be surprised if this person paid someone to look for that and hold it for him.

But imagine the Mint rolls the coins in reverse order so 20000 wouldbe first and 00001/20000 would be last.
