LCS just got in a 37' 3 Leg Buffalo in an older PCGS holder graded at F15. That coin has been one of the non-silver numismatic coins that interest me and might be in my budget. What is a fair price? He has it a $750 in the case and that is right at RedBook. I think that might be a little more than I should pay.

Is anyone else super skeptical about the three legged Buffalos? Especially the one IndianGoldEagle linked to. To me, it just looks like it's too easy to rub down the leg on those things and create a fake.

Look for these features on a genuine 37-D 3 legged. -The rear leg on a genuine "three leg" will appear to have more metal gone than on the normal coin. -It will have a series of raised dots under the belly that do not appear on the normal coin. -Lastly look at the "P" in the word Pluribus and the "U" in the word Unum found on the left side of the buffalo. On a genuine "three leg," they will be further away from the buffalo's back than on a normal 1937-D.

Why do these factors only occur on the 3leg variety? Just the die pair the created.it?

Those characteristics are on that particular reverse die.

The missing foreleg, space between the motto and the buffalo, and the "motheaten" appearance of the rear leg are all a result of the excessive die polishing this die underwent. (The dots below the buffalos belly are more likely damage to the specific die.) Any other reverse die would show the same characteristics if it was polished to such an extent. Of course if another die had been polished that much we would surely have more than just one date for a three legged buffalo.
