Hi everyone. Where would this Jefferson grade? I still see luster, which I think I captured somewhat in the photos. I'm at XF-40 but I am out of my element with moderns.

I'm going with VF25 on this coin.

Why you might say?

The key to grading circulated Jefferson nickels IMHO is observing the details remaining on the reverse portrait of Monticello ... making the reasonable assumption that both sides of the coin experienced comparable circulation wear.

At XF40 (your choice) ... all 4 columns are fully distinct and there exists a nearly complete horizontal line below the central window.

At VF30 ... the columns are still there but weak ...

At VF25 ... my choice ... the central columns have lost most of their definition and there is but a small triangle left remaining of the central window.

Nice coin ... Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the help with grading this and the insight on what to look for. I was trying to determine if it was worth sending to a TPG, but at VF the math doesn't add up, not sure I would want to use a free voucher on it either. Thanks!
