That's a very interesting coin! Does it resemble this one in Krause?
Judging by the thickness, it might be a "piedfort"--or a strike on a double-weight planchet--but I don't see this specified.

Update--here's a 1848 10c piedfort/piefort on Heritage auctions that closely resembles your coin. Nice find--where did you get it?

Going through my late Dad's collection that hasnt seen human eyes is 22 years. He was a dealer in the 70's and 80's. What I think I am seeing is he had many more foreign coins of value than he ever anticipated. I think since he was pre-internet days there wasnt as much info as there is today (or a market for that matter). I will be posting as I find coins of interest. I have thousands to go through but at least most are already sorted by country and in 2 x 2's.

I hope there's more finds like this one! Have you found any older (prior to 1800), silver coins from Norway? I know those are worth more than values given in Krause.

DVCollector....don't specifically recall any Norway pre-1800 but it wouldnt surprise me. I'll make a note of it and check next time I am in that "pile". I'm a Bust Half....Morgan....kinda guy.
