Both are rerally not $500. the gold coin have to add tax so it is really $564 and the 5oz penny is diffilcut to get at issue price. Well .. both have their own uniqueness but personally, I would pick 1914. The premium on the gold coin is not as bad as the penny so if the hype die down, I still get close to the value I paid for. Although I doubt that the 5oz penny would goes below it original price

Wery depends, on what do you have.

If you already have one of the 1912-1914 $5 or $10 coins - buy the 5oz Silver Penny (are you sure that you will get it near $500?)

But if you do not own nothing from coins mentioned by you - I think, the gold coin is more important to own, even if it will not fit to your silver collection.

It just IMO, I do not take in account future re-sale option.

Thanks.

I need the 5 Oz Penny to complete the "Farewell to the Penny" set related coins.

I only has the $5 HS 1912. Want to get $5 HS 1914 as it is lowest mintage and doing so well.

One of the 1914 $5 is at $810 with 24 bids.

Its a no brainer. The gold coin for sure. The melt value of the gold coin is around $400. The melt value of the silver 5 oz is $150.

did you re-ordered it, I mean, now?

It seems to be good choice - the 1912 or 1914 coins that available from RCM.

Yesterday also ordered additional one (1914), although didn't want to spend nothing till March.

But we speak about collectible item and if he needs it to complete "Farewell to Penny" collection - there isn't so simple choice.

@moneypenny, It is not "No Brain". It is "No Money"

If I have enough money I will take both.

Thanks silveroid for getting my thought

The coin that seems to be more rare (1914) more available...
So strange.
Probably, a lot of 1914 haven't been shipped, so obviously it easier to cancel the order.

I would go for the 1914, similar price, but BV of ~$150 vs ~$400. It's in great condition, consistently sells for a premium. Worst case scenario, buy the 1914, sell it for $850-900+, then buy the silver coin and pocket the difference.

Go with the 1912-1914 $5 piece. Regardless of the price of gold, it will ultimately keep its value.

Like the others say, buy the 1914 $5 coin and use the profit to offset the price of the 5 Oz penny, which is no longer available for list price.

don't you think gold prices are high just because not many coins shipped? how many buyers are you expecting on ebay when all this coins will be dumped to be sold for 800+ ? ;-)
