This appears to be a low grade gold coin. It is paper thin and measures 17mm. I have always had this labeled as a Crusader coin coin I have no idea how I came to that conclusion.

Possibly the "inner" of this

Crusader France. Philippe VI de Valois, 1328-1350 AD. Large silver Gros a la queue. Chatel tournois, inscription around / Latin cross, inscription around. Very nice! Beautiful detail, nice cabinet tone and great character! 27x28 mm, 2.11 g.ref: DuP.265.

Thank you very much for the info. It really looks the same as the center of the example you provided.

Well, it's a "denier tournois". This exact same design was copied by various crusader states, the difference being in the lettering. I can;t quite see enough of the lettering in these pics to decide whether it's a French or Crusader coin.

I believe the legend in the 2nd pic (the chateau tournois side) reads NEPANTI CIVIS, for the Lepanto mint, in Greece, which I believe makes this a Crusader billon denier tournois of Philip of Taranto. Yea or nay?

And I think I can make out DESP from 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock on the other side, from an abbreviated "Phillipus princeps Traranti, despatus," dating this to the early part of the reign: 1294-1307.
