I found this coin, along with many others, in my late grandmothers effects. This coin is about 25.7 in diameter and looks to be on a very thin coin blank. I have not been able to weigh it yet. Is it possible that this entire coin is fake? I don't have a regular coin of that variety to compare it to, but it doesn't seem to have the strength of a regular coin and it does not seem like it is perfectly round.I know very little about coins, so thank you very much for your input.

Here is the other side. I have not figured out how to attach multiple images to the original post, so I will add by reply. Thank you.

Looks real enough to me but I doubt it's brass. It is in horrible shape essentially culled IMO may have been a metal detector find then cleaned, useful as a placeholder but that is about it.

Yes, it's real and probably buried for a number of years. The 1858 & 59 coin planchets were 1/3 thinner than those from 1876 onward. I shine things like yours (maybe a little better) up with brasso and use or give them away as golfball markers. I imagine that your grandmother found it digging in the garden or something.

I was told never to try and clean coins, as it may hurt their value. This is strongly evidenced by the condition of this coin. Strangely enough, you are right on the money with your guess of my Grandma finding this in the garden. In fact, when they found her not breathing and unresponsive she had it in her hand. That is why I thought maybe, just maybe, this coin had some value to it. Oh well, rest in peace Grandma, I love you.
