I just bought this off ebay from a coin dealer in Canada with perfect feedback.
He had it listed for $54 total

Large cents would probably have to be my favorite coin, and I never had a Half Cent before... so I decided to sell off a 1783 8 reales I got a while back because it doesn't fit too well into my U.S. type set and I wanted the money to buy a coin around the same value.

First, what do you think of the price?
I know it was holed at one point and there is some light gunk on it but for the fantastic detail in the coin I personally am very happy with the price. I would rather buy this one at $50 than spend $200 on the same coin without a small filled hole and some residue.

Second, is there anyway I can get that residue off without destroying the color of the coin? I kind of doubt it but I just wanted to make sure. I don't mind it too much but of course I would rather have it off. But only if the rest of the coin looks exactly the same.

Thanks!

Details look AU, but there is no price guide for holed coins.
I would probably only bid 30-35$ on this one.

I'd try Acetone and then maybe a toothpick to remove the residue (while still soaked). It would probably scratch the coin a bit, but either it won't be noticeable if it won't be helpful or look better than the residue if it is.

Would acetone get rid of any of the color or just loosen the residue only?

I have never used acetone on copper coins so I can't really say for sure about the color changing but I have heard of people using a rose thorn instead of a toothpick because its a lot softer than a wooden toothpick and wont harm the coin and still sharp enough to get into the small crevices to remove the residue in those tight spots. I am sure someone else will be able to give you a definitive answer on the acetone question but since I have never tried it myself I don't want to recommend it

I would say you have nothing to lose by trying anything. The color is already messed up (too pink, implying cleaning). I have a feeling you may be disappointed with the coin in hand.

Acetone won't change the color of the coin, only remove surface junk.
