I have always wanted one and I saw this:

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

1964-Kennedy-Half-Proof---Req-For-Grade....

I was hoping it was at least PR-65 or better. I can not wait to get my hands on it for sure. It will be the nicest one I have even if not 65 or better. What do you think?

This one is also a Kennedy I dont have....Hope a Kennedy expert chimes in....Looks like strong strike,,appears to have hub double? Maybe more in proofs? Coin is nice and clean....At least PR-65 if not 67....I would have thought the hairlines would be more sharp,,, I have a number of 1964 Buisness strike with that sharp of an obverse..........?

Thanks for the replies, I am also wondering if it is an 'accented hair' variety. I am trying to learn how to tell and other than the 'v' above the ear I am not sure.

Hmm the FG "Straight G" on the back shows it is not accented hair...oh well still nice coin that I hope is MS65 or better.

Very nice, I'd say a definite chance of a 65, if not higher. Although I'm not the best at grading these that ones for sure a nice one! Nice addition to your set!

I'm actually wondering about other ways to tell the accented hair also? I've been cherry picking gem (& dcam proof) raw kennedys since summer and just bought the last to complete my P,D,S Dansco (the first one, '64-'89) And the '64 proof I just got in the finishing batch appears to have the accented hair compared to the other proofs.. The only coin in the entire set that even comes remotely close is the '67 SMS.. So any other ways to tell if it is?

I found a thread in here somewhere,

https://goccf.com/t/104133&SearchTerms=Kennedy

This is the best thing that I have found to tell the difference. I used the G in FG to determine that mine was not an accented hair variety. Hope this helps.

Yes, very much, thanks. Mines not either.. Lol. I guess another good way to tell is if the lower serif of the I in liberty is missing.. Cherry picking still for that one I guess... My set still needs one... Lol.

Defiantly PR65 at the least! That's a real nice one.

That's one humdinger of a coin! Except for a small 'carbon' spot below the ear, there is very little wrong with this one.
I guess a 67, but I must admit that I am not very good at levels 65 or more.

Cool, I have been doing some looking and it would seem that they are quite common in PF65 so that means if I can get a PF67 I will have done well. Thanks

When I get it I will post more pictures, even though my pictures are not the best. Still I am excited to see it...along with the %&^%* CC Morgan I bought.

Ok I went an bought an unopened 64 proof set today. I looked at 12 that were already opened and not a one of these look in any way similar to the one in question here with the shine/mirror. I made sure it was the proof set and not an UNC mint set.

So now I am more confused than ever. I can not take a decent picture but I can describe the one the thread is about as looking like the sheen on a 80's proof half dollar. The one I got in the new set is in MS62+ condition but it does not have the 'proof' look.

I know the one in question is not a Cameo or anything but why such a large difference?

Here are the pics of what I bought today
