Those of you who listen to my ramblings are aware that I'm a pretty scatterbrained collector at the moment. My purchases tend to be based on one criteria: Is it pretty? As a result, very rarely do I buy anything which has any connection to anything else in my collection. There are, however, a couple areas where I'm actually assembling something resembling a "collection," and here is one of them: These are PCGS PR69DCAM Jefferson nickels, and as of yesterday they are complete from 1972-2005. I intend to stay a year or two behind current, to allow for the initial rush of popularity to fade. On the other end, I am now going to (slowly!) proceed backwards to 1959, my year of birth, at which point I'll consider this collection complete. Of course, there is only one 1959 Jefferson graded PR69DCAM by PCGS. I don't like my chances to acquire it. The moral of this thread is, even someone as unfocused as I can pursue a goal. There's as much pleasure, and validity, in pursuing a specific series as there is in scattershot purchasing, and I'm enjoying both immensely.

Very nice. How long did it take you to build the collection to this point? Are you gathering the older coins from mostly coin shows?

An impressive spread, many congrats! You didn't happen to spot an error on any of the edges along the way, did you?

A beautiful and impressive set. As much as we consider ourselves scatterbrained collectors, once we have more than one of something, we have taken our first step down that slippery slope of set collecting.

Won't Richard let you at least have it for a short time to take pictures with your set?

I wouldn't be surprised if he's the one who has it. More than half of what you see above came from him.
