Does anybody have any ideas about this "penny"? It is slightly larger in size than a penny and, despite the photos, is actually well struck all the way down to the VDB which shows clearly. The rim is unlike anything I have seen before and is basically a channel running all around the coin. I found it in a bag of coins from the bank.

Any help would be appreciated.

That makes sense, thanks, but what happened to the copper-colored coating? It looks just like 1943 steel penny?
Rest in Peace
