Here is a Constantius I that picked up a little while ago. Under the mylar it looked corroded to me. Now it is out in the daylight and I am wondering if it is cast? What do you think?

O: FL VAL CONSTANTIUS NOB C
RX: VOT / XX
The seller has it marked as RIC87a and Sear3579,

I think if it were cast and having that much 'slag' in the mix the lettering would never have come out as clean as it is. It is possible that the coin had survived a terrible fire and been cooked very close to the melting point. The first coin I ever owned (not purchased) was an Alexander drachm which had melted in one corner and fused with another coin. The coins had later been broken apart but the area of the fusing was certainly worse for wear and the break area was quite porous. I think this coin is damaged not cast.

I agree that it's not cast, but it has suffered some environmental damage.

This just looks like a badly corroded coin. Doubt anyone would cast a coin that would look so badly corroded.

Looks like corrosion to me. Weighing it might show that it is underweight, but that weight loss can be due to the corrosion. If there is no seam (or evidence of filing to remove a seam) on the rim, I think it's authentic.
