Hi guys long time reader first time poster, I recently bought a large number of nickel dollars from a collector looking to get rid of a lot of coins (over 100). He had taken them to a coin shop and the guy there said just take them to the bank so he sold them to me for just over $1 each. After going through them I notice what looked like the double yoke variety of the 1974 dollar and was wondering if anyone can confirm that it was a double yoke. I'm not usually that lucky so I kind of figure its not the valuable coin listed in the books. And if it was why would the coin store not want them? I was also if there was any value to this coin?

Thanks guys sorry if the pictures are unclear I'm still new to this.

I also found this one that has what looks to be a chimney on the far building. Once again sorry about the poor picture quality. I know the picture is terrible but if its a known variety maybe you have seen it before. If anyone could tell me the variety of this coin and the first on I'd be very appreciative.

The first coin looks like Double Yoke VCR-2 caused by Tilted Hub Doubling.... The second coin is not a known variety. Nice find.

Here is a link to the original list of varieties for the 1974 http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...llarVars.htm . The 2013 Charlton Vol 1 catalogue has a section that builds on and expands this list (as well as providing lists for other years) if you can get your hands on a copy of it.
Yes, as @pginrh said, your first coin is a VCR 2/Rev.-003. The second is not listed. I can't tell from the pictures if it is Post Mint Damage ( PMD) or not though.

Thanks for the help guys, I can try to get a better picture of the second coin but it wasn't easy getting a clear shot at it so I don't know if that will help.
I was also wondering the value of the coin I see the prices vary a lot on ebay for them (obviously grade and variant must play a part in that)and if the have a value why would a coin shop pass these up and say take them to a bank?

Many coin shops do not take the trouble to look for anything but the more well known varieties... in the case of the 100 coins that your friend sold you, the dealer probably did not want to take the trouble to look through them for very low mark-up coins.... it is only since Charlton's 67th came out with the nickle dollar varieties that people have really started to look for them.

The VCR-2 is the must common of the double yoke 1974's and you can find an AU in the $40 price range.

Cool finds. According to my LCS owner the only "real varieties" of 1974 dollars are DY #1 #2 and #3. I think the more recently published minor varieties may gain some steam over time though.

I believe I have found a double yoke varietal in a Proof Like Set from 1974. It is the VCR#3 Variety. Please take a look and let me know if this is the correct variety.

Appears to be so!
No proof sets other than Olympic coins were issued in 1974.
Is yours from a PL set or a Specimen set?
