Hi, my son and I are having fun with the uncleaned coins, but have not been able to identify this coin, despite spending lots of time on various attribution sites. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!!
It's a Greek Imperial / Roman Provincial, from the city of Nikopolis-ad-Istrum, in modern-day Bulgaria. You can read on the reverse of your coin NIK...ICTPON.
I can't read enough of the obverse legend to lock down the emperor, but it's probably Caracalla or Geta. Here's a list of Nikopolis coins from Wildwinds; search the page for coins showing a "crescent" and you'll find quite a few.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
