Hi everyone

I am new to this. My father gave me his Canadian coin collection a few months ago. I am still figuring out what is in it. There are lots of loose coins. Among them, I found this 1917 American quarter that looks very nice. I read a bit about it, and I would like to get your opinions on its grade.

Merci

That's a super nice well struck coin that is probably mint state, certainly AU58 at the worse. (I think MS)
It needs to be protected in at least a 2x2 and whatever you do; do not clean it.
Great coin.

You have a 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter Dollar ... most likley MS condition and I say MS63 based on the photos.

This is a $300 coin ... take steps to protect it ... and as suggested above ... do not consider any cleaning.

I would run with MS63 as well, as nickelsearcher has indicated.

There are a few blemishes and minor scratches wich prevent a 64, but it is in the high side of 63.
Even the areola of Liberty's right boob has some appropriate toning, to perhaps make it a little more lifelike, and perhaps a little less statuesque.

Maybe that is the reason they changed the dies for 1918.

Who said that numismatics was boring?

I'd agree with MS63 as well. Lustre on the high points, looks uncirculated to me. And not many marks, decent strike. All in all, a nice piece.

The brown spots are surely just toning. Not unattractive, so I wouldn't try to dip it or anything.

That coin is a true classic. Great condition. I would want it for my collection. As other's stated, leave it alone and don't clean or do anything to it. It's perfect the way it is.

Hi everyone

Thank you all for your comments. I asked my Dad about that quarter, and he did not know he had it.
I found more American coins in my Canadian collection. I will post some later.

Merci beaucoup
