Today I purchased this beauty. It was one of six the dealer had. The design looks really good to me.

What do you all think?

Nice coin with a nice color, about VF30.
If you've payed 25$ or less you did fine.

Thanks ChesterB. Next month I'm going to put aside a good 2-3 hours at the show to find the 1/2 cent, 2 cent, and 3 cent coins.

I think I'm going to need to buy a coin album now to start organizing my collection.

It's an 1852 coin which makes it 160 years old at this point. As the pictures show, it's in very fine condition. Some scratches on the surfaces and a little worn off around the rim but overall a good looking piece.

I'm proud to have this one in my collection.

The Braided hair large cents are a great coin for someone who would like to collect a classic series in nice condition. The youngest coin is over 150 years old, they are readily available in XF or better at prices that won't break the bank (And VF's are affordable for pretty much every collector, even most of the youngsters.) and there are no expensive key dates. The 1857 will cost you the most but even it is doable by most everyone and that is really something to say about a coin with a mintage of only 333K, most of which were never released and were melted back down by the mint. (They were struck in Jan and then became obsolete in Feb when the Flying Eagle cents were released. Once that happened the mint stopped releasing the large cents and melted then down to strike small cents. They could make 2.5 small cents out of every large cent they melted.)
