Firstly, I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but it seems like it at least fits here.

I'm considering getting into metal detecting, as I live out in the country with a lot of woods and fields that have been known to turn up stuff like arrow heads and the like, and figured there's probably a good chance of coins somewhere around here. I would love some input on some good (preferably cheapish) detectors for a beginner.

I have a bounty hunter lone star and I've been using it about a year now and I've found tone of coins and silver. I think it cost about 179.00 it doesn't work that good on a beach because of the saltwater it gives false signals other then that good machine.

Why buy one? Make your own!

Also, this may be stupid on my part, but you realize that a metal detector isn't going to help you find old indian arrowheads because they were made of stone for the most part, right?

Yes I agree, dont spend a small fortune on your first detector. I will say that I hunt with a lot of groups, many of us swing higher-end machines and we stomp the "ding-dings!"
BH's and G's are good for surface finds lol.
