I live in the country in a house built back in the 40s that I know for a fact hasn't had a detector used anywhere near the property in the last 20+ years at least.

I've never detected before and the property is almost completely wooded, but has a history of turning up stuff like arrowheads and musket balls. I'd love some input on a good, preferably cheap detector that works okay in wooded areas.

I recommend the Garrett ACE 250.

The wooded aspect of the property is irrelevant. The best detector meeting your description of "good" and "cheap" would be a Garrett Ace 250 or a Fisher F2. I have used both and would recommend either one. Good luck.

Alright, ordered the Ace 250 tonight (from Amazon) and should have it by the end of the week, here's hoping weather's nice on my days off next week so I can give it a go.
