Maybe it`s just me . I have noticed on quite a few 1751 -1951 nickel that the first 1 on 1751 some seem to be thinner and fatter . Firts picture is thin and second one fatter .

Good observation.
It is indeed a thin 1 and fat 1.
I looked through a roll of mine and the shallow engraved fat 1 seems to be the less common.
I think it is just a minor variety,besides everyone was looking for the moon varieties in this year.
It is time to get the best Mint State examples available.
