the colours don't really show in the scan the 2006 is gold the 1972 is reddish and the 1968 is green. I do not know what is wrong with the toonie. The rims are flat and the whole coin is dull.

Picked up 18 rolls of pennies today with older Canadian finds being: 1937, 1940, 1950, 1956, and 1958. Also found 3 wheat cents.

Wolfman, do you still have the toonie? If yes try a ring test with another nickel toonie. The nickel one will ring and if yours sound dull, it can be counterfeit.

Question for you. I have been searching US rolls of nickels and dimes. Do all proofs have a mark of "P" under the queen? I have seen some that have a crown under the queen but look to have the shine a proof has. Or do all newer dimes have the proof look finish?
Thanks.

The RCM logo appears on 2006 and newer coins, the P is for Plated steel, and appears mostly from 2001 to 2006. If you find a p on 1998 to 2000 I think it is worth keeping. A proof coin has a frosted finish on the queen and a really shiny background, which is definitely noticeable in comparison to a regular coin. The first proof coin I found in circulation was a 1996 penny and I couldn't figure out what it was until I joined this forum.

Thanks for the info. Yes you have confirmed my suspicions. What I thought were proofs were showing up too often.
Thanks again.

SlurExe97: I see you are back. Have you got settled into University? The toonie has no ring or bounce to it. It just plops on the table. It came from the Royal Bank of Canada. I guess the tellers don't recognize them either.

Don't spend the toonie, I think it's best to contact SPP, he is studying these counterfeit toonies. They're pretty good looking fakes, if I wasn't paying attention I might end up with one (which I hope not!). I've entered the residences last week, I'll be starting classes on Monday. I haven't been able to restart roll hunting, but I've found people interested in buying stuff that I have, mostly voyageurs but also quarters with various designs that I roll hunted.

Do you have many Voyageurs now? I know someone who is looking for varieties, and I still need a 1987. Did you bring any Malaysian money with you? Maybe 1971

I have about 30 of them various dates. They minted voyageurs in 1987? I thought they switched to the loonie. How about a trade? PM me, while I'll dig out the coins and photo 1971s I find.
Did SPP contact you about the toonie?
