I'm on the same page with COOP. Not having close up pics it looks like it could be PMD to me. The Cud isn't the typical shape of a Cud where it's thicker on the rim and the reverse looks funny.

I'm glad I am on Mike Diamond's page and I would hope than the OP is on that page too. Wouldn't you think that the two technical responses above would indicate that those responders knew a little about what they were talking about?

Chzman.....my response was for that particular die not for Cuds in general which I have hundreds. I have 5 just like his and there would be a lot more out there, just like his.

KisNap - if Mike Diamond says that you have a Cud, believe its a Cud! Congrats, its a really cool find for your first one, I never find those, I buy them.

Zimmy...I agree, there are so many more out there, your post was right after mine so I mistakenly assumed that you were correcting me, my bad sorry, I have a bit of a defensive personality.

Here are a few of my 1979 nickel Cuds like the one the OP posted. It's listed in the Cud Book as JNC-79-1. Notice the die damage above the Cud on the close up photo. That's the damage explained earlier in this discussion and makes this a more desirable piece.

If Mr. Diamond said it is a Cud, it is 99.9% a Cud. He is one of the best at determining errors, so you should hang on to it.

Thanks for the pictures of your Cud's Zimmy. It was just difficult for me to tell with the OP's photos what was going on. But comparing it to your coins, it's the same thing. Nice find!
