So the other day a friend of mine gave me what he said was a "fake" coin from his work. I looked at it and immediately recognized it was a Shield nickel, though it was...not exactly mint state. Initially I considered putting it in a drawer and forgetting about it, but curiosity got the best of me. I hate doing this with coins but I put a drop of Nic-A-Date on it, thinking I can't really make it less valuable considering it's current shape, and discovered it is in fact an 1868 nickel. Hole filler!

It's just about the ugliest coin I have in an official collection album of mine, but it's also one of the more interesting stories I have lately too. :)
