Poll Question
It truly seems like there are a lot more collectors now and I'm just wondering how everyone started.

When I was 10 I inherited part of my dads collection. He had mostly circulation coins pre-1968 and a couple Whitman albums that I have yet to finish off. Even before inheriting I was interested and have always checked circulation coins. I bought my first uncirculated set in 1995 at issue price when I was twelve. Now that I can afford some of the stuff I collect for my kids.

I don't have NCLT of any sort any more. I gave about $4,000 cat. value of NCLT to my children. These days I am into World coins, all cultures, ancient to modern.
I do, however, still take some interest, and take part in discussion here in the CCF.

My first purchase was the 2007 blue and iridescent snowflake coins in 2008. I didn't realize they had appreciated over the years. I sold 2 sets for $1400 last year. I use to buy Perth Mint products, but lately some of the designs are so unattractive.

I started years ago to sell only and then found myself keeping more and more for my own collection as time went on.

I started with circulation coins and old dollar bills.

I started out in a totally different hobby, collecting stamps as a kid. Once I was introduced to video games I lost interest in stamps. I started with the Atari 2600,but, my collection has spanned nearly every system since then. At last count I had over 450 games spanning the last 25 years. Many have never been played. I am a collector at heart, but, since having my son, I don't have the time to play games any more. My son deserves more than a collection of games when I'm gone, so, I've channelled my compulsion to collect into coins. At the very least he can melt 'em down when I'm pushing up daisies. Hopefully he'll appreciate them more than that.

Started with circulation "from the change", then realized, that there is a part of NCLT that deals with the coinage milestones, and nice new silver coin produced to commemorate some of the old/rare/important issues Wildlife and art on silver - additional branches...

I got a gift for Christmas and I said to myself that this would be a fun thing to do since I really was doing nothing else at the time.

Was watching tv very early last year and an advertisement for RCM came up. Out of curiosity I checked out the site, saw the 20 for 20 polar bear, and pretty much insta-bought it. Since then I saw a ton of designs, and found myself just liking more and more.

I like the pre-1971 specimen coins (1858-1970). They have it all, ultra-low mintages, beautiful strikes and a wow-factor that modern NCLT cannot compare to...
