I am new to this, but I have a question. I have a .999 1 ounce silver coin from President Carter inauguration. I can't find it anywhere on the net...It is Limited edition, and only 1000 of them were made. I have pictures if anyone could help. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Maybe you're not finding it because no one wants to admit to having it. Sorry, that was mean. Actually as much as I may have disliked the job certain Presidents did, I have several tokens and "collector coins" from a buncj of different Presidents. Have you checked ebay to see if anyone has sold one there recently? And what's the question you want answered about it?

to the Community! What you have is not a coin, but a bullion medal. I moved your post to the appropriate forum. Hopefully someone will know more about it, but if you have photos, that will help. This might help... Uploading PhotosFree Image Optimizer

Thank you so much...I appreciate it. My dad passed away and had quite a collection. He was in politics. :)

Yes, look near the top of the page. You will see that this thread is now in "Tokens, Medals, and other Exonumia" instead of "US Commemoratives" (where you originally posted it).

You can check this site out: http://www.inauguralmedals.com/Inau...77.html#pret to determine if you have an official inaugural medal or one of the many un-official medals struck at the time. If it doesn't match the design and specifications shown on the site, it is not an official inaugural medal (and will likely be worth less to collectors of these types of medals). The site doesn't provide current retail pricing, however. I saw two of the small (32mm) silver medals on ebay with asking prices of $50 to $60. There are also a few of the large (63mm) silver Carter medals on ebay at the moment with asking prices in the range of $280 to $320. Hope this helps.

this is a strange one. If I can, I will upload the pictures. It has all dimensions, same artist, different view. He is looking the oposite way with an open smile. It says lmtd. edition, 1000 made, #173. .999 silver, 1 ounce. It is silver, I had it tested. Strange huh...?

Not so strange, really.
It is very common for medals other than the "official" medal to also be struck for important events. In the case of inaugural medals, sometimes the design(s) rejected by the Inaugural Committee are struck privately by the artist/company that submitted the design. These are then sold to collectors as commemorative pieces that supplement the official inaugural medal.
Pictures of your piece would be most helpful.
