WEW Ski, that was tough. The situation in the 7th century was quite complicated between usurpers and regurgitated names of long dead emperors, it made for a real challenge, thanks. I learned a fair amount trying to read background information, just to come up with a name.

Can the face only be an Emperor, empress or king?
You probably don't want gods, but what about regular non royal man or mythological mortals?

Only the ruling class were depicted on the early coins of the empire. The Byzantines were very religious Christians (Eastern Orthotics ). There was a time when any images of Christ, Mary or any religious image was banded, this was the era of the Iconoclast. Many priceless images were removed from churches and destroyed. The first Iconoclasm period was from @726-787 and than again from @814-842. During this period only images of the ruling class appeared on coins with usually only a cross on the reverse. After the iconoclast period ended religious images were allowed again and they started to appear on coins..

Man I am so bad with Greek (and Greek-looking) coins. Aside from Alexander the Great, nothing comes to mind.
