Well, I've been trying to get stuff from ebay to clean up (my last lot has dried up really - nothing more I can do but wait!) but I've been failing miserably. So, I decided to get a lot at any cost. This seller sold a batch of 30 coins for nearly £80 with 2 lovely carausius coins in it so I dont think the lot has been searched. Those were advertised as high quality.

So, I bought the lot he listed as 'Low Grade' - I see a few nice coins, I see a lead token type thing in the mix - I dont think ill get many really good coins out but I want the experience of cleaning and IDing them more than anything and its more fun when the coins are lower quality.

A-New-Uncleaned-Lot

I wont receive them for a while - I'm paying by postal order and then when they receive that, it will be shipped.

So, any thoughts, anything jump out at people? Id also be interested to hear what people think I should have payed for this.

I think they look really good. Nice strong patina's on all of the ones I can see. It is never a bad thing to have a couple more Carausius coins. Converted to Canadian currency for me that would be about $4 a coin which I think is a little expensive (but I am cheap) per coin but if you get some really nice ones coins out of it I would say it is worth it in the end.

Whizbang - I didnt get the expensive batch! I got the cheap crummy batch!

It comes out to 70 canadian cents per coin for the batch I've got and I dont see any Carausius in the picture.

My main bug bare is that there is a constantius II coin right in the middle from a mint that I despise. I just hate that bust design for some reason. I might give it away or something when its cleaned if it doesn't have a good reverse.

I just hope theres a Jovian. That would be great!

I like the price ! But I can't tell too much from the photo other than it is the kind of stuff that 'floats your boat'. Always be patient on ebay. Unless you are bidding on a Gordian II that someone has misattributed as III don't go overboard. It is much like fishing. Sometimes the fish just aren't around. Next week you might be pulling fat ones up everytime you throw out a line. P A T I E N C E (grasshopper)

Oh I thought you got the expensive batch! 70 cents a coin is an awesomely good deal and awesome price. I just responded to the text without looking much at the picture.

I am still working on the patience part about collecting. I may have accidentally bid on a couple too many coins this week and am hoping to loose a couple of them otherwise I am dipping into the tax return!

Edit: Oh happy day someone sniped the majority of them and I got a couple of the ones I wanted.

Thats good news at least!

And Patience is one thing, but I want to get back into cleaning coins and this guys other group convinced me that there will be interesting stuff in here! I miss having a pile of coins and not knowing whats in it. This should tide me over for another 4 months!

Update: With fees, paying with a postal order has increased the cost to 80 canadian cents each! Not quite as happy about the order with that fee added. Oh well, I know ill get more than 80c of entertainment from each coin!
