A few recent posts have discussed the upcoming special edition set for the Five-Star Generals program that will include an uncirculated example of the program's silver dollar and half-dollar as well as a bronze medal featuring General MacArthur. I wonder if the medal will feature the same portrait of the General as was used for the medal presented to him by Congress in 1962 or if the Mint will use the one on the current commemorative gold half-eagle?

A "Young Collectors Set" for the US Girl Scouts Centennial dollar is also in the works at the Mint. Production of the set will be capped at 50,000; if it sells out it will represent 1/7th of the total authorized mintage of 350,000 coins across all options. This set could prove popular among members of the Girl Scouts considering the number of young/adolescent girls who are Scouts. It would also be one of the few "Young Collector" sets to feature a silver dollar â€" the 1996 Smithsonian Institution 150th Anniversary and the 1998 Black Revolutionary War Patriots come quickly to mind as others.

Time to keep a look out for these interesting sets!

OK I've gone to the US Mint site. It must be me, I'm sure, but I cannot find anything about currently and upcoming available coins and how to order.

I'm waiting on both of these to see what the mint has planned. I actually like the young collectors sets - you get some simple history and a coin - if it is a proof this go around I am set - an uncirculated I may pass since I already have that and the coins just aren't that interesting. The Generals - I may or may not buy depends on what they do. I really am impressed with the proof dollar - but the uncirculated is just ok and I already have both the half and dollars - so unless they add something special - I may pass on that as well. Now if they did add an Ike special - I'm in!

I am very interested in this set since the price of the three-coin proof set it a bit above my comfort level. I hope the bronze medal is the same as the gold commemorative (maybe without some of the coin related legends, just as they do with the First Spouse program).
