I personally think you got ripped on the grade, Just look at the PCGS guide says as to what a 64 should be and tell me what it is on your coin that makes it less?

You know what you have a valid point. I looked at that grading scale over and over and thought 62-63 was probable with 61 being a possibility and 64 being generous. I guess in my heart the scratches made me concede which in reality is flawed because as I understand it the scratches are an example of UNC Details". In effect they dont change the "grade" just the PCGS grade-ability.

I accept that TPG is a crap shoot and as we hear over and over half are thrilled half are not. The other half are named Yogi

Gaz, I stated what I did due to the glare on the pics. It tricked me a bit and looked kind of polished and glazed. I'm pleased to know it came back problem free although it seems a bit lower than the experts would have expected

The fact that I called it circulated, while PCGS chose otherwise, doesn't prove anything. I based my opinion solely on the fact that the marks I saw didn't seem likely to me without some minimal circulation, even though I saw no wear on the coin. That, by the way, is my definition of "AU58," a grade I believe to be thrown about with entirely too much abandon.

PCGS thought those marks compatible with their definition of a Mint State coin, although apparently detracting from the grade it would otherwise have received.

Takeaway? Yup, grading is subjective.
