I don't know about the authenticity of the coin, but I do know that I would not not touch it.

I'm okay with the wreck part, but the ship is another story ... Whatever floats your boat!

I'm with amida, but we've got to do a better job than the CoinTalk people at making an argument.

My first thought was how poorly the denticles are shaped and unevenly spaced. Also, looks like a seam running from 3:00 to 9:00. I would like to see a pic of the rim.

That thing looks like a hunk of lead. I like mine.

Nice, muddler! I think we agree it looks to be a cast counterfeit. The remaining question is whether the mold was taken directly from a genuine coin, or was it crafted de novo. Unevenly spaced denticles would signal a de novo copy, but those on a copy from a genuine coin may look uneven from the layers of extra metal that result from the process, softening and blurring the features in the way we are accustomed to see. The claim of the seller is "shipwreck" corrosion; that would remove metal from the features, not add it to them. I think demonstrating the difference here would be the best way to prove a fake.

My first impression is that it has the look of a crude contemporary counterfeit

In looking at the edges (most prominently 6 to 9 o'clock reverse), I believe I see a seam. While I have not had a chance to study shipwrecked pieces, I am fairly certain seams were not added to coins when the ship sunk.
