I was reading over the Heritage Auction's currency value page and I came across this sentence about $2 bills: "Star Notes from the Kansas City and Minneapolis district banks (I-* and J-* notes) are very scarce, and sell for more than $100 in Uncirculated condition."

I happened to pick up a star note from the bank on Saturday that is from I- (Minneapolis) Since I can't really find any other information on this note, does anyone here have any idea how much it's worth? It has one very light fold, almost unnoticeable, down the center and is crisp otherwise.

Upon further research, it looks like 3,840,000 were printed. I'm guessing that there probably isn't too much premium on this run.

Hi Gruver,
Looking at my Red Book it lists an 2003-I* $2 note having a value of $23 in UNC but that's way too much IMO. I think realistically its more like $15 in UNC and perhaps only at max $10 in the condition you have yours in.

I find it hard to believe one of those could sell for more than $100 even if it was Gem 67 or higher condition.

Thanks for the reply, Woodford. I was skeptical that something like this would be $100+ so I decided to search around and ask. $10 wouldn't be too bad considering I got it at face value.

Perhaps it was a "fancy" serial number, or some people (like myself) can get wrapped up in the heat of the moment and wind up overbidding.

That is true if it was a serial number from 0000001-00000100 I could see that price being reached easily but the quote from Heritage seems to say all star notes from those 2 districts in UNC are worth $100 plus.

If the serial was from #1-#10 then it would be worth several hundred even in UNC.
