hi all any one now what this is I picked it up has the parliament house on one side is so much like the 1988 50c trial the other side has centenary coat of arms like the2001 50c centenary coin looks gold but don't now if it is straing size and weight size 27mm 7.2 grams beautiful to look at
so just before everyone says fake 14 years ago I found the 50c trial and every one said fake thinking caps on the strike on the 50c trial is the same size as the one on this gold strike both have HH for horst hahm it is in a black box from the mint and because of the size it fits nice in the inlay of the box as I don't know of a coin or medallion of this size the mint box inlay should not be the same size as this piece I don't think any way the inlay from the box could solve this puzzle

It is 1mm smaller than a Stirling silver florin and weighs 4.11 grams lighter so I definitely think it being gold is out of the question.
Other than that I wouldn't have a clue what this medallion is about.
Crikey you get some interesting stuff Shane

Nice pickup. Not gold, doesn't weigh enough. Balance of probabilities is that it's some sort of medal struck for the bicentennial. There were dozens of them struck. You could send a picture of it to the RAM, someone there might know what it is.

You need Les Carlisles other book specific to 1988 Bicentennial Medals.

Not this one but the other one he's written.

Dear Mr ---------

Thank you for contacting the Royal Australian Mint.

The Mint has not made this medallion. It looks like the silver version of the medallion made by the Centenary of Canberra unit, who are part of the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate of the ACT Government. Please see the following link for their contact information http://www.canberra100.com.au/corpo.../contact-us/

Regards
