I've have a few buyers complain to me about the cost of BidPay to them to send me money. They always tell me they prefer PayPal and won't do business with me anymore. I don't accept PayPal anymore because people keep paying with a credit card and I can't take them or I'll be charged a fee for all transactions, credit cards or not.

David,

You will find that NO MATTER what form of payments you accept, people will complain. Do not let this bother you. If they do not wish to spend their money with you, that is their choice. You can't change everything just to make people happy.

For what it's worth, we have found that accepting all forms of PayPal payments has increased our sales. For the amount of volume we do, the additional bids we get are worth the additional fees we pay.

For many sellers, the fees are simply not worth it. You need to make the decisions on how to conduct your business based on what is best for you. If you are willing to ship overseas, you will see very few complaints about Bidpay from international buyers. We do not accept international Paypal because then we are not covered under Paypal's seller protection policy. While there are still occasional complaints, we have not had a problem once we explain our reasons.

Keep in mind that the more you sell, the more customers you'll deal with, and therefore the more complaints you will have. It's just a matter of ratios. No matter what you do, you will not be able to please everybody all of the time. It's the nature of sales, and internet sales are harder since not everyone reads the entire description, including payment and shipping terms.

So, make your business decisions based on what works for you.

Over here in Europe they will say paypal only for international bidders and at 5 % extra cost and ebay lets them say that
Some sellers do not think before offering international sales
When you ask them about shipment to the US insured they suddenly find out the only way is DHL at 35 euro ( ouch )
Therefore the biggest sellers will take all kinds of payment and will selfinsure their sales ( not much choice )

While ebay allows the European sites to pass the charge of the Paypal fees to their customers, please keep in mind that this is not permitted on ebay.us.

PayPal also allows the use of bank accounts and there are no charges for this payment like on the credit card. Seem that all you would need to do is specify "no credit card" and go ahead and use PayPal.

Unfortunately, if you try to only accept account payments with no credit cards, you'd be surprised at how many people don't read the payment terms and turn around and want to pay with a credit card. It doesn't help that, if you display the Paypal logo in your auction, all of the credit card logos are also displayed. I'm sure that PP does this on purpose so that more people will just accept credit cards and then PP can make fees on the transactions.

On the BidPay screen where it has the transaction details, is that date the date the money order was sent out to me? It says June 9th and I still have not received it yet and it also lists the money order as being sent.

There should be a date showing when it was sent (usually 1-2 days after the approval date). You should have received an email stating the date is was approved also.

Susan, the e-mail says it was sent on the 10th. I should get it soon hopefully. I haven't had to wait this long before, that is why I am concerned.

If you don't get it on Monday, you could contact them and check on it. The good thing about Bidpay is that, if the MO is lost in the mail, they will issue another one.

When I first started and sold a few items I intially let winners pay with paypal. At the time I had no idea the seller was charged a fee for selling. I always used paypal to pay for items I won, but I donnot sell often on ebay--I am mainly a buyer not a seller-

Well later I learned that once you except 1 paypal credit card payment thats it, I will always be charged a fee on paypal, whether the payment is thru a credit card OR if it is cash, bank account to bank--Which is true? Getting-Complaints-About-Bidpay

You are right CiScO. Once you accept a credit card, you will have fees for any and all transactions, even if they pay from an existing balance. Bad deal there.

I don't sell anything on ebay anymore. I do buy a lot and will not us Paypal when buying. I pay by Personal Check or Western Union Money Order. I use Western Union Money orders because Canada sellers can cash them easily.

I do read the instructions. If I come across a seller who will only accept Paypal I don't bid in their auction. I really don't like people tracking everything I buy and reporting it to the government.

The Federal Reserve has a required policy called "Know Your Neighbor" where bank and credit card companies must report a buyers purchases to them. Using a money orders by-passes their ability to do that.
