Thought I would make this fun thread to see peoples thoughts on buying silver or gold vs some other purchase.

I will start with a new vehicle.

New Car $25,000: worth in 10 years $0 to $2000 if your lucky.

1000 ounces of Silver $25,000: worth in 10 years possibly $15,000 to $50,000 or more depending on spot price.

It's all relative to what a person has a preference in.

I'm a car guy so i'd say the money I spent purchasing my C63 AMG is well worth it. My silver wont take me 0-6 in 3.8seconds, or do 200MPH. I don't care if one day the car is worth 1/10 of the purchase value. To me the time spent in the car and the driving experiences make up for the loss of $$$.

How about real estate

Purchased an apartment builiding in 2008 for $450,000 just got appraised at $680,000 only 5 years later. In 10 years it could be $1,000,000 or the world could blow up and be worth $0

I like real estate myself. There is and always has been a finite amount of land. My one acre I bought on the inland waterway down at the coast cost me $2000 when I was 18 years old and is now worth around $130K for just the land. I just put a new double wide mobile mobile home on it in 2008 that I paid $62K cash for and just moving it there increased the value of the dwelling 2 fold. So for $64K total I have property valued at a little over 1/4 million $'s. The plus side of it is I am able to rent it out for $500 for a three day weekend or $1000 for a week during peak fishing and vacation season.

Although you failed to value the 10 years of transportation the car provided. You can't value something you don't use against something you do without assigning value for the use. I am sure a tractor would also go down in value over 10 years but what role does that play in a farmer's profits just as a car transports people to work, the store and recreation.

So when is the thread coming where we show our pay checks, lol. I personally could never see spending over 100k on a car, but to each their own. I drive a POS though the wife just got a new Caddy but thats only because the old saying is true "happy life happy wife" and she won't drive a POS.

Northcoins,

Heres my split on that 25k. Go to the dealer tell him you want a nice low mileage daily driver spend no more then 10k, take the other 15k go to goldmart or providents websites and buy as much bulk .999 as you can. I would bet .10 to dollars that in 25 years you will be happier you choose the silver.
