Hello everyone,

I recently acquired this strange coin in a lot and was wondering if anyone can identify it. It doesn't appear to be roman or greek but certainty is an ancient. There seems to be some sort of sun design on the reverse

Any help would be appreciated

Looks roman on the obverse - Tiberius or Augustus (Octavian).

Gosh - a run around to find the ID for this one. Here you go:
Asia-Minor?
SPAIN, Uncertain Northwestern Mint. Augustus. 27
BC-14 AD. Æ 29mm (14.49 gm). Bare head left; palm
in left field; winged caduceus in right /
Celt-Iberian shield. RPC I 4; SNG Copenhagen 414.

That was bleedin' difficult!

EDIT: This is a really interesting provincial issue. Your coin even still has the caduceus. A provincial army's shield - celtic and no legend. Cool!

That looks like it to me, but could it also be RCP I #, 413?
I cant seem to find much info in regards to actualized prices but this listing here shows what appears to be the same type under a different attribution

Well, its very worn but still certainly an interesting and rare type. That coin is sold under the same ID but phrased a bit differently. The example in the picture I posted was valued at $500, but yours is worn - no legend, shield is incomplete and only the caduceus is visible, which would lead me to believe $20 unless you find someone lookingfor the type.

The main issue here is that you are a collector - FORVM is a dealer - they can use dealer prices - which are often highly inflated. Selling on ebay, with some advertisement, you could still get a fair bit (I assume you got the coin on the cheap).

I did indeed get it on the cheap, and thanks again for the info!
