I have the Perth Mint Mythical Creatures and the Canadian Mint Glow-in-the-Dark Dinos.

I was thinking of putting these into an album. Can I use a large coin 2x2 for these to keep them safe?

How does anyone else store them outside their original plastic?

Non PVC Saflips may be better in this case.
That is despite the fact that almost all of my coins (of which almost all are less than crown size), are in mylar / cardboard 2x2's.
2 1/2 x 2 1/2 pocket non PVC album pages should be available.
My albums are recycled trade catalogues, with FOUR ring binders, to handle the extra weight of a full album page.

There ya go. Trout has used non PVC binders and slip cases as well!
I have two slip cases and binders (with pages), courtesy of me 'ole mate.

Thanks be to him!

2 1/2 x 2 1/2 Mylar / cardboard flips have been used as you see here, with the non PVC (polypropylene in this case), and 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 pocket album pages. Essential, if you are going to store proof crown sized silver coins as a set, for display, as you see here. They look quite impressive when the album is opened.

I would suggest you consider not removing the coins from their capsules and store them in album pages made for coins in capsules. Here's a link to one such option:http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lig...2258/US_2264

I think it's a mistake to remove modern coins from the capsules they come in. Doing so risks the possibility of physical damage and, with the storage options available today, is unnecessary in one's efforts to streamline the storage of a collection.

I keep the modern coins I collect in their capsules and store them in coin trays like these: http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lig...2265/US_2266

The coins remain secure in their capsules, 20 or more coins can be viewed at a glance, and coins can be rearranged as necessary in a matter of seconds.

Good luck with your decision. Please let me know if you have any questions.

, irrespective of the fact that they may be in openable screw capsules, eg., British Royal Mint products, or permanently sealed capsules eg., Royal Australian Mint products.

Nevertheless, the approach that trout uses standardises the presentation, and allows information related to the coin eg., date acquired and the amount paid.
Screw capsules in this approach can be saved and re used for other high grade coins, that justify a high level of protection, that never had capsules.
In this case, an album can contain some pages for capsules, and some pages for 2x2's.
