Listed this on ebay, and was not expecting it to get any bids yet, so thought I'd share.

Upon reading on the internet, I found out that these were usually 'seeded' into the ground for treasure hunters to find. Haven't seen any completed listings for it.

Anyone have any info about the coin or seen one before?
Thanks!

Nova Scotia medals is one of my main interests. Oak Island is near Mahone Bay, NS and is quite famous as possibly being the sight of Captain Kidd buried treasure, with lives and millions of dollars having been spent trying to locate the treasure. Book have been written about this place. This is a souvenir medal. The mint is unknown, likely a stock blank being used, and it is aluminum, 26mm and the mintage is unknown. It has a catalogue value of $5, but because these come up for auction so rarely (I only have one and paid just under $5 for mine in unc) clearly you have at least a couple of bidders who really want the medal. My bid is in there, but lower than the $12.

Oh, there are two versions too, one without the inverted USA and one with, like this one.

I was ready to bet this was one of the places with a Capt-Kidd's-Treasure tradition!

Cool, thanks for the info! I love to know the purpose of tokens like this.

Why is the USA there?

My hypothesis would be that they got them made in bulk by a US company used to making such promotional items, and said company likely has a stock of aluminum blanks like that.

Yup, two people got into a war for this... nice. Honestly, had I not had picked one up recently, I would have been up there too. I know because I went to look for mine and couldn't find it with my other NS medals. Luckily I found it in a loose pile or I would have been bidding!
