Hi there

I have a couple of silver coloured British pennies dated 1996 and wondered if they were unusual/ valuable. They were never coloured the usual brown colour, I remember getting them in 1996 and thinking how pretty they were, so I kept them. They aren't silver of course, I did the fridge test but it looks like they were never covered (I know there is a technical name for this, but it escapes me!) Wondered if anybody knew anything about them at all.
Thanks
Sarah

I moved your welcome post to the 'United Kingdom (Great Britain) Coins' forum for the proper attention.

Need to see pictures, but in the first instance my guess is that they have the copper plating missing.
Not a very rare error for this class of coin.
Dunno why that is the case. They are so obvious, and shouldn't leave the Mint that way.

The copper plating is very thick and the steel rusts easily. It would be very noticable. The most probable thing is that it has been zinc plated by a bored student in chemistry.
