denkan, I personally cannot determine if this coin has been polished or if a scanner caused the reflections that I am seeing from my end. In any case I really cannot tell you a grade because this is one of the few examples where a different method of photography could yield more pertinent information ref the actual state of this coin. In any case to CCF as a new member. Please come back often. mdpmedia

Sorry for the photos. I haven't figured out how to take good pictures without the light reflecting too much. The first two pictures are with just the daylight from my window and the other two are with a yellow 40W table light. I also tried to get a good picture with the camera on my phone but that was a dead-end.. Hope this makes it easier to put a grade on it

denkan, If you would like to avoid spending a lot of cash (< $ 30.00 US) and obtain excellent photos without annoying glare try reading the entire following thread on USB photographing coins and their unique applications including how I improvised using a < $3 solution to eliminate virtually 99% of glare on shiny proof coin photos: https://goccf.com/t/88598I hope you enjoy and benefit from some of the tips discussed here by all CCF members. mdpmedia

I am terrible at grading these but for $40 I think you did well. I can't tell if it has been cleaned but numismedia has it listed at $40 for VG8 and yours is DEFINITELY better than a VG8 . If I had to guess, I would guess in the AU range.

to me it appears that this coin was cleaned. using the natural light example to grade I would go with AU cleaned. the surface hairlines on the reverse and crud on the lower devices lead me to that decision. this coin would retail in AU50 at about $130. Normally I would price visibly cleaned coins at 25-30% of retail. $40 sounds about right.

Denkan w/ Panz looks a bit wiped but the wear is good so what you paid versus FMV on a problem free coin is right in line where it should be I recommend a USB microscope cam for $30

Hi, thank you all for the respond. I'm using a USB microscope/camera with 20-200* zoom. I bought for myself this X-mas and paid like 290$ for it, thinking "That's what I need to take great pictures like all the other collectors online"...doh.
I will not lie, I'm terrible at anything that has to do with technology. But to my defence, the guide that came with the camera shows different options of adjusting light, shapness etc. Those "tools" won't show when I installed it on my computer.
The computer (the one I talked about above) I'm using has seen better days, so I bought a new laptop for the family (just for photos, paying bills and of course document my coins)... well turns out the software to my usbcam don't work with windows 8.
So unless I somehow get it to work or buy a 30$ cam, wich of the photos are best for grading?
Should I photo without any light for the whole coin and put on the LED-light for detail photos? Or will the details be easier to grade without light?
/Denkan

denkan, you've got to do some research on this forum on photo taking. Those previous years worth of posts, albeit a lot of reading time, will lead you to your answers better than you will get on this one thread.

I will go with AU details for now. The coin looks cleaned in the pictures in the first post but the pictures taken with the table lamp shows a coin with a much more natural appearance.
