Be sure to revel in your late husbands joy of coin collecting ... you are handling a part of him and his Love each time you handle one of his coins.
Part of what you are asking has been on my mind recently ... I have put some thought into it ... I will be leaving some general directions for my wife to enact upon my death. (her side of the family lives a LONG time, mine not so much)
I see my collection as an investment, on top of the hobby ... I will guide her with a bit of an education so she can have confidence in getting the best value for the coins (precious metal and/or numismatic)when she decides to liquidate.
A great fact is this ... if you put your coins on a reputable "coin auction", people like us will pay exactly what they are worth on the market ... a true "appraisal" with ones pocketbook (put your money where your mouth is appraisal)
Calculate Auction fees, but don't be afraid to negotiate your "sellers premium" down to zero ... the auctioneer makes a buyers premium already (as high as 20%) and he makes nothing without something to sell ...
Good luck and Hopefully you will soon be able to celebrate your husbands Life ... Think about all the Great Times :) Best Wishes
