From your images, I believe we are looking at a counterfeit.
First clue, you mentioned the weight being less than standard specifications. The coin shown is not worn enough for it to have lost that much of its original weight.
It surfaces look rough and porous, a known characteristic of counterfeit Spanish Trail half-dollars.
Also, the lettering on the "coin" shown does not match the lettering on a genuine example.
Personally, I would not buy it - at least not if you are looking for a genuine example!
