My best guess is its a reaction to the heavy drop that happened yesterday. The gains are starting to fade out some for today and we saw some of these rebounds when it was dropping fast a couple weeks ago.
Even though it is gaining the gain is still less than it lost yesterday which doesn't say to me anything special is going on other that a reaction to the steep drop.
Go thunder may be right too someone with a lot of money may have taken advantage of the drop buying for a quick flip when it rebounded

My personal theory is that it's tied in with the number of internet forum threads about the ups+downs of spot prices or investment insights/advice/predictions of some kind or other. Right now, 7 of the 10 top-of-the-list threads in this forum fit that description. I think we're responsible for it. We should toss in half a dozen more threads in this overall subject area. We might be able to drive silver back up to $30 and gold back up to $1600.

Ya it shot up but it has a ways to go before I would be convinced its on the rebound, give it a day or two without dropping and maybe I will buy some more ounces of gold.

Quote: I think it was a reaction to the Moody's report that if there isn't a fix to entitlements they might downgrade the U.S. That could be part of it, the other agency already did the downgrade in 2011 though so I'm not sure how much of a big deal that really would be other than a short term reaction

The lower silver price had little or No effect on the numismatic coin prices ( I was kind of hoping it would but it didn't)But the collectable silver proofs have only just started to be affected by this downturn. I took advantage of this and have bought quite a few of the coins I have been after for a while at quite reasonable prices. If the price keeps on going up that will be the end of that

It may just be an indication of some big money doing a little bargain hunting in the paper markets.
